Sol is the Sun, who stands in a chariot, pulled across the sky by two horses, Árvakr and Alsviðr. She is the sister of Mani, the Moon. A great wolf Sköll is chasing Sol across the sky and the wolf will catch her on the day that Ragnarök begins. During a solar eclipse, when it seemed that Sköll would catch Sol, people would create as much noise as possible to scare off the wolf so it would drop the Sun and continue the chase.
